Bloody Monday is a manga series written by Ryou Ryuumon and drawn by Kouji Megumi. The story concerns a plot by a terrorist organization to unleash a deadly virus in Japan, and the efforts to stop them by the Third-I branch of the Japanese national intelligence agency, together with a group of high-schoolers.

Series

The Bloody Monday series consists of the following parts:

  • Bloody Monday, chapters 1-96 (2007-2009)
  • Bloody Monday Season 2, chapters 1-68 (2009-2011)
  • Bloody Monday Last Season, chapters 1-36 (2011-2012)

The manga was serialized in Weekly Shounen Magazine, and all three seasons were later collected into a total of 23 volumes.

  • Fujimaru Takagi (Lead Mastermind): A high-school student and the secret identity of the hacker prodigy "Falcon", who became famous for using his hacking skills to expose criminals and corrupt politicians. After being caught breaking into Third-I's systems, he was recruited by the organization, eventually becoming involved in the "Bloody Monday" investigation.
  • Otoya Kujou (Backup Mastermind): Fujimaru's best friend and "backup", and the only one outside Third-I who knows Fujimaru is Falcon. Besides being extremely intelligent, Otoya is also a skilled archer.
  • Ryuunosuke Takagi (Specialist): Fujimaru's father and vice director of Third-I. He is forced to go on the run after being framed for the murder of the agency's director.
  • Maya Orihara (Specialist): A terrorist responsible for the Christmas Massacre virus outbreak in Russia, who infiltrates Fujimaru's high school as a biology teacher.

Related titles

  • Death Note is a likely inspiration to Bloody Monday, being a very famous Battle of Wits manga with similar elements. Both center on a large-scale investigation of a series of mass killings with international reach, with the difference that Death Note is primarily told from the perspective of the murderer. The use of single-letter aliases for some of the antagonists in Bloody Monday may have been inspired by the character L in Death Note.
  • Prison Break is a television series that also involves international intrigue and conspiracies, with a similar thriller-style plot where betrayals and character deaths are common.
