The Chinitsu Bluff Trick is a Trick in the Ten manga series. It is played by Takashi Ten and Nakanishi against Hiroyuki Igawa in chapter 6, as their strategy for the first game of the Mahjong Match for the Ramen Shop.
Summary
Ten has Nakanishi play as if he's in tenpai for a chinitsu (flush), in order to make Hiroyki hesitant and force him to play around a certain suit. This makes it easy for Ten to choose a wait for his tenpai that Hiroyuki is likely to play into and take points away from him. This strategy, which increases the odds of Ten winning off of Hiroyuki while Nakanishi sacrifices his hand, takes advantage of the rule that Ten proposed where only his and Hiroyuki's points count.
This strategy culminates on the South 4 round, when Nakanishi keeps a dora tile of the souzu suit in his hand while building a chinitsu of the manzu suit, only discarding it when he is able to reach tenpai. Since the dora is a potentially valuable tile, but useless for Nakanishi's chinitsu, the normal course of action would be to get rid of it as soon as possible, to decrease the risk that another player will be able to win off of it. This leads Hiroyuki to conclude that Nakanishi is bluffing again, causing him to let his guard down and deal Nakanishi's winning tile. This cements Ten's victory of the first game.
