Notable Tricks
Auctioning the Death Note
Minoru, uninterested in using the power of the Death Note and realizing that many of the methods Kira used would not be feasible in the modern world, where there are cameras everywhere, comes up with a way to profit from the Death Note without ever having to use it. He asks Ryuuk how far away he can move from the Death Note's owner, then instructs him to travel underground to Sakura TV and hold up a message in front of the camera advertising a Twitter auction for Kira's power. Even if there are people who are able to see him due to having touched the Death Note before, traveling underground makes Ryuuk virtually impossible to track, making it extremely hard to connect him back to Minoru.
Distributing the Winning Bid
After the United States government wins the auction with a bid of 10 trillion American dollars, Minoru delivers instructions via Ryuuk that the money must be divided equally between every Tokyo resident under 60 with a savings account in Yotsuba bank. This makes it virtually impossible to narrow down who Kira might be, and allows Minoru to collect a sizeable portion of the money without incriminating himself.
Claiming the Power of Kira
The president of the United States, after being told by Ryuuk that a new rule has been added that anyone who buys or sells the Death Note will die, decides to save himself by refusing to take the notebook, while announcing to the international community that he has gained the power of Kira and just refuses to use it.
Outcome
Unhappy about the auction, the Shinigami King adds a new rule to the Death Note saying that whoever buys or sells the Death Note will die upon receiving the notebook or the money, respectively. Unaware of this and having lost his memories, Minoru withdraws the money from his bank account and immediately dies from a heart attack.
