Character information
Name: Hari Seldon
Series: Foundation
Tier: Mastermind
Role: Lead Mastermind

Hari Seldon is the leading figure in the field of psychohistory and creator of the Foundation in the namesake series of books by Isaac Asimov.

Modus operandi

Seldon was a professor of mathematics in the planet of Trantor, the capital of the Galactic Empire. He was responsible for developing the discipline of psychohistory, a branch of mathematics that uses statistics to accurately predict the behavior of large human populations. His calculations allowed him to anticipate the fall of the Empire and the subsequent dark age, which drove him to devise a plan to lead human civilization back to its proper course. The Seldon Plan, as it is called in the series, is first put into motion two years before Seldon's death, and is supposed to span hundreds of years. In order to avoid invalidating his own predictions, Seldon is forced to hide details of the future from those responsible for executing the Plan, only revealing pieces of information through pre-recorded hologram messages to be played during critical points in history, which come to be known as Seldon Crises.

Matches

Since most of the series takes place after Seldon's death, the only Match in which he directly takes part is the Trial of Hari Seldon. However, his Plan encompasses the entirety of the series and he reappears as a hologram during Seldon Crises to help ensure that everything is going according to plan.
