Series: Tobaku Haouden Zero
Trickster: Zero Ukai
Target: Sakura Suezaki
When: Tobaku Haouden Zero, chapter 1

The Tracking Gum Trick is a Trick in the Tobaku Haouden Zero manga series. It is played by Zero Ukai on Sakura Suezaki's yakuza group in chapter 1.

Context

After Zero's righteous thieves stole back the money from Suezaki's bank transfer scam, Mitsuru, Yuuki and Hiroshi are captured by Suezaki's group when they disobey Zero's recommendation and try to withdraw some money for themselves.

When Zero had first rescued the three boys from their suicide attempt and recruited them for his cause, he had given them packets of gum that he claimed were poisoned with a fatal dose of hydrocyanic acid, so that if they so chose they could still die. However, this was a lie, and he had actually placed small tracking devices inside the gum, so that if the three were all gathered in the same place for a long time, he would know and might be able to prevent another suicide attempt.

Summary

Zero follows the signal from the tracking devices in the gum to find the warehouse where the yakuza are keeping the boys. He then hides a music player nearby playing a recorded siren sound. When he enters the warehouse and Suezaki and his men try to attack him, he draws their attention to the siren, claiming that he contacted the police and had them follow him there. He points out that if the police were to arrive and find four badly-beaten youths, the men would all be arrested and perhaps even get capital punishment. This causes a panic among the yakuza and leads Suezaki to decide to run away and let the boys go.
