Varicella is a 1999 work of interactive fiction by Adam Cadre. It is available to be played for free in the author's website.
Taking place in an alternate history of Italy, Varicella puts the player in the impeccably-polished shoes of Primo Varicella, Palace Minister of the Kingdom of Piedmont. The King has just expired from a sudden illness, and the Prince is only five years old, creating the need for a regent, a need that all members of the court will be eager to fulfill. Being the first minister to hear the news, Varicella has a head start, but he must act quickly to eliminate his rivals before they can make their moves.
