The Mahjong Match for the Ramen Shop is a Match in the Ten manga series, taking place in chapters 6-10.

Context

Nakanishi, the owner of a small but well-located ramen shop, has lost half of his restaurant's ownership to a rich businessman through gambling. The businessman offers him a chance to win it back through a mahjong game, with the intention of winning the other half. Sawada's yakuza group is hired by the businessman to play for him, and Hiroyuki is selected as their rep player. Meanwhile, Nakanishi asks Ten to play on his side.

Sawada proposes a match consisting of five hanchan sessions, where the side with the most total points at the end of the hanchan winning the session, and the winner being the first side to win three sessions. Knowing that Ten will be at a disadvantage because he cannot reasonably use his signature Tenhou Chuuren Poutou Trick more than once, Hiroyuki expects him to object to a three-out-of-five match, but instead Ten merely proposes that they make it a one-on-one match between him and Hiroyuki, where only their points count.

Outcome

Ten wins three of the five matches, winning Nakanishi's restaurant back. However, he is accosted by Sawada afterwards. To save face, Sawada needs to beat Ten up for cheating, but he makes sure to give him shallow injuries that won't be life-threatening. However, when Ten accidentally falls backwards and hits his head, Sawada calls an ambulance and sends Hiroyuki to him so he can be taken to the hospital.
